Cold wave hits Shangla after heavy rains

Daily routines have come to a standstill due to the extreme cold and public activities have slowed down noticeably.

SHANGLA:

A new wave of severe storms, accompanied by heavy downpours, strong winds and hail, has devastated Shangla district, plunging the region into an intense cold wave and seriously disrupting normal life.

The latest bout of monsoon rains began with thunderous thunderstorms that brought torrential rain and hail in several parts of the district. As is often the case when it rains, the electricity supply system has been severely affected, causing prolonged outages in many areas.

After heavy rains, icy winds have gripped the valley, enveloping Shangla in biting cold. Residents are reporting a sharp drop in temperatures, especially in the high regions, including the Alpuri and adjacent mountainous areas, where an unusual drop has been recorded. The combination of persistent downpours and hail has significantly intensified the cold, with mornings and evenings becoming especially harsh.

Daily routines have come to a standstill due to the extreme cold and public activities have slowed noticeably. In some places, heavy falls of hail compounded the problems. Locals say demand for heating oil has increased.
