A spike directed Docuseries with Colin Kaepernick that was broadcast on ESPN is no longer happening, said the network and the filmmaker in a statement on Sunday.

ESPN said the problem was due to “creative differences.”

“ESPN, Colin Kaepernick and Spike Lee have collectively decided not to proceed with this project as a result of certain creative differences,” ESPN told Reuters in a statement. “Despite not achieving the purpose, we appreciate all the hard work and collaboration that entered this movie.”

Lee told Reuters on Friday that the documentary was not dating and that is all he could say. He later added that he signed a non -dissemination in this regard.

Reuters reported that a Kaepernick representative had no comments.

It was almost a decade ago when Kaepernick, then of the 49ers of San Francisco, protested against racial injustice in the United States when he knelt during the national anthem before a preseason game. The demonstrated initiated a fire storm around the League, which led the NFL players and President Donald Trump to face in a moment.

Kaepernick protested during the 2016 season and left at 49ers before the start of the 2017 season. He has not played at the NFL since then. He filed a collusion lawsuit against the NFL, which was resolved in 2019.
