Martínez expressed their condolences to those who have lost their loved ones and who are still trying to find those who are missing.

“With a heavy heart, condolences to all members of our family and people in the United States who have family in the Dominican Republic,” he added in an X publication.

The Jet Set nightclub was full on Monday night to go to Tuesday morning, since it celebrated one of its weekly parties. The former MLB players Octavio Dotel and Tony Blanco were among the dead when the entire roof collapsed when the Juerguistas danced to a meringue concert.

Nelsy Cruz, the governor of the northwest province of Montecristi and sister of the former MLB star Nelson Cruz, called the President of the Dominican Republic Luis Abinader while caught in the rubble. She died later in the hospital. Other victims included singer Rubby Pérez, the saxophonist Luis Solis, the fashion designer Martin Polanco and several others.

The officials put the dead number in 124.

The authorities have requested calm, since those who expect information about their loved ones have worried more and more.

“The big baseball leagues are deeply sad because of Octavio Dotel, Tony Blanco, Nelsy Cruz and all the victims of the tragedy last night in Santo Domingo,” he said. “We send our most sincere condolences to the families and friends of all who have already been affected our colleague Nelson and his whole family,” said MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred in a statement.

“The connection between baseball and the Dominican Republic is deep, and we are thinking of all Dominican players and fans throughout the game today.”
