Bestselling author Colleen Hoover is setting the record straight about the much-discussed ending to the 2024 film adaptation of her best-selling novel. Finish with us – and his answer might surprise fans.
During a recent conversation with USA TODAYreflected the 46-year-old writer in the adaptation starring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni.
Despite online debates and fan theories about whether the film should have handled its ending differently, Hoover insists she’s more than satisfied.
“Those actors and the director did a great job and I couldn’t have been happier with the movie,” he said.
Hoover also acknowledged that bringing the emotionally heavy story to the big screen wasn’t exactly a walk in the park.
“It was a difficult book to adapt to the subject and I think they handled it very sensitively. So I don’t think it would have changed anything.”
In other words: there are no requests for a director’s cut from the author herself.
The novelist added that the experience has not shaken her faith in book-to-film adaptations. If anything, it’s made him more curious about what goes on behind the camera.
“Experience more” the filmmaking process, he said, hinting that he would like to be more involved in future projects.
Meanwhile, Hoover’s stories continue to move toward Hollywood. Your bestseller of 2022 Reminders of him just hit the screens and another fan favorite is already in the queue: TRUE is scheduled to hit theaters on October 2, 2026.
It’s safe to say that Hoover’s cinematic universe is becoming diverse.
