Karachi:

It was like hitting gold when a company that prolongs fresh water supplied a gas reserve.

TPL Properties has reported the discovery of a gas pocket while drilling a test well for water exploration in Korangi Creek.

In a notice presented to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the company declared that preliminary technical evaluations, together with the independent evaluations of experts in the industry, suggest that gas is probably a under biogenic methane, naturally produced through the decomposition of organic matter.

As the location is not part of a recognized natural gas reservoir, the company said that the gas pocket is naturally dissipated over time if the fire is allowed to burn. The discovery was made as part of a series of extensive studies conducted in collaboration with the main national and international consulting firms. These studies included geotechnical analysis, soil structure and pollution evaluations, electrical resistivity surveys (ER), a comprehensive environmental and social impact evaluation (ESIA) and other reference evaluations.

After the incident of the night of Friday, March 28, 2025, TPL Properties has taken all the necessary measures to administer the situation and has informed the relevant interested parties accordingly.

Great reservations in Korangi Creek

Previously, a geologist who speaks with the Express PAkGazette had expressed the possibility of large underground gas reserves in the Korangi Creek area, urging the need to extinguish the fire that has been burning for five days and starting gas exploration activities on the site.

Associated Professor in the Department of Geology of the University of Karachi, Dr. Adnan Khan, told Express PAkGazette that the 56 -year data of perforated wells in the Indo Delta region for the exploration of oil and gas, points to the potential presence of methane gas in the place where the water bored the emission of gases and the fire outbreak. He added that there is also the possibility of coal deposits on the site.
