Pakistan faces a potential scarcity of ghee and kitchen oil, with edible oil shipments stuck in Port Qasim for more than a week, which caused concerns about supply interruptions, said Express News.

The authorization process for edible oil shipments has been stopped, which has led to fears of a shortage in the country. During the past week, neat oil shipments have not been eliminated.

Sheikh Omar Rehan, president of the Association of Vanaspati manufacturers of Pakistan, declared that there is no space available in the terminal to download shipments. He added that 8 to 10 ships, which transport more than 70,000 metric tons of palm oil, are waiting on the tails to download their load. This situation threatens to cause a shortage of ghee and edible oil in the market.

The association also revealed that great delays and fines are imposed on shipments trapped in the port, exacerbating the financial impact.

The suspension of customs software (PSW) is also affecting the authorization process, which leads to significant losses for importers. The lack of authorization is worsening the shortage of edible oil.

Rehan said that the detention in authorization is causing serious damage to the economy, and importers face losses worth bills of rupees due to the delay in shipping processing.

The delay has highlighted the ongoing challenges in the ports of Pakistan, which are vital for the soft flow of goods in the country.
