Kaghan Valley:
A traffic accident claimed the life of an Atock couple on Tuesday, while their little son miraculously survived with injuries in the picturesque Kaghan Valley. According to the police, the family vehicle slid down a mountain road and sank hundreds of feet in a deep ravine.
The incident occurred near an sharp curve, where the vehicle lost control and fell into a fast flow current underneath. The 1122 rescue and local volunteers performed a challenging operation to recover the bodies.
The injured child was urgently taken to a nearby hospital to receive treatment.
Eye witnesses described the scene as deeply distressing, leaving the tourists already shaken. This is the last of a series of accidents that have tarnished the ongoing tourism season in Kaghan and Nara Valleys.
Earlier this year, three people, including a child, died in a similar accident near Batakundi, while another incident near Jalkhad left several wounded tourists when a car overturned on a slippery road due to overene.
Despite security measures, such as patrol increase, warning signals and awareness campaigns, traffic accidents in the region continue to increase. The administration of KDA and the District has once urged tourists to drive cautiously, especially in blind slopes and turns, and requested a stricter application of road safety protocols.
