Cricket and drama stop Google searches in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD:

Cricket remained the most dominant entertainment topic in Pakistan, while local television dramas also emerged as a major focus of public interest, according to a Google report published on Monday.

The report, titled ‘Year in Search 2025’, offers a snapshot of what captivated Pakistani users online throughout the year, from sports and entertainment to governance, education and real-world crises.

According to the report, Pakistanis were increasingly relying on Google Search to access timely information on pressing day-to-day issues, including an increase in searches related to the floods in Karachi and the increased risk of flooding near the Chenab River.

Users actively searched for information on government initiatives such as Punjab Socio-Economic Register, ‘Asaan Karobar Card’ and Minister’s Youth Laptop Program 2025.

Similarly, educational updates, including results and notices from the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education and other examining bodies, were among the most searched topics.

Searches on gold prices and international developments, particularly Iran-related news, also featured prominently as Pakistanis sought to stay informed about global and economic developments.

Additionally, Pakistani users largely turned to local dramas for entertainment, with stories and performances closely followed throughout the year.
