Privacy is the soul of cryptography, and without it, nothing but we really matter.
If you care about financial sovereignty, you need privacy. If you care to coordinate with others to make social change, or think freely, or build a more prosperous society, you need free exchange of value. Freedom begins with privacy.
As engineers and scientists who work in ZCASH, we have spent years developing private financial tools that will be integrated into the future of civilization. It is not exaggerated to say that our descendants will live in a world that rests on the bases that we are building today, or else we live in a world we neglect.
Zash was the first cryptocurrency to send real and solid privacy with zero knowledge tests. Solving the privacy problem with cryptography was only the first step: we needed to quickly iterate and improve our cryptography to make it practical with phones and invest a lot in investigations that would make it possible to climb. Today, our innovations sit in the hearts of many decentralized protocols.
But while the way to follow to climb private payments in the chain is now simple, no project has approached the fundamental challenge of climbing private wallets at the same time.
Most cryptocurrency users will use wallet software based on a remote server to enable shipping and receipt of payments. This helps address scale problems by promoting bandwidth and computational loads of user devices, but has the cost of demanding the user to renounce their privacy to remote services.
To realize our monetary project for preservation of privacy, we need a user experience that is as convenient as one that does not have privacy at all.
The simplest solution is to use exotic cryptography to allow remote servers to help our local wallet software without revealing any private information. We have known that this is theoretically possible, but until recently it seemed not to be practical at a scale, at least a decade of new science, or so we think.
Enter the Tachyon project. With the existing cryptography and some smart protocol settings, it is completely practical for ZCASH wallet software to synchronize with a highly active block chain full of transactions when outsourcing the pieces expensive to non -reliable third -party servers. The servers do not learn anything about their wallet and cannot even know what chain transactions correspond to their users.
Without a doubt, the cryptography necessary to do this possible and scalable is not yet simple. Fortunately, ZCash has a long construction and sending history of this exact type of advanced cryptography. We have already prepared the stage for this in some of our recent updates, and with the Tachyon project we plan to make a rapid progress that display the remaining changes during the next year.
I am excited that we have such strong enthusiasm and alignment in the ZCash community to be a reality. But I am also relieved that we can fulfill the moment and, in reality, generate highly scalable and unstoppable digital money. We do not have time to wait for more research or scientific advances. Fortunately, with Tachyon, we can build and deliver today.
