The teams began the operation after receiving intelligence reports; Sheriff martyred in intense exchange of gunfire
Four terrorists were killed and a police constable martyred in a joint operation carried out by the Anti-Terrorism Department and local police in Cantonment area of Bannu, officials said on Thursday.
According to Bannu District Police Officer (DPO) Saleem Kulachi, police and CTD teams launched the operation after receiving intelligence reports. The suspects were already positioned and opened fire, leading to an intense exchange. Four terrorists were killed in the encounter, he said.

DPO Kulachi confirmed that Constable Abid Khan embraced martyrdom during the shooting. He said the police personnel fought with “remarkable courage” against the terrorists.
The martyred constable’s funeral was later held at Bannu police lines where police officers, Pakistan Army officers, family members and colleagues were in attendance. The martyred officer was buried with all official honors.
Fourteen kidnapped workers rescued in DI Khan
Separately, Dera Ismail Khan police released 14 workers kidnapped during an operation in Sedu Wali area of Paharpur, officials said.
A Dera police spokesperson said police teams cordoned off the area and launched a search operation under the supervision of DPO Dera Sajjad Ahmad Sahibzada. There was a brief exchange of gunfire, after which the police managed to recover 14 kidnapped workers unharmed.
DPO Sahibzada lauded the efforts of SP Paharpur, SP CTD, DSP and other officers involved in the rescue operation, stating that the police remain vigilant to protect citizens and will not allow any group or individual to take the law into their own hands.
