The Cuban coast guard has killed four men aboard a speedboat registered in the United States (USA) after intercepting them in Cuban waters. A Cuban commander was injured in the incident.
According to the Cuban Ministry of the Interior, a vessel registered in Florida, with registration FL7726SH, was intercepted near Cayo Falcones, in the central province of Villa Clara, on Wednesday, February 25.
The ministry said people aboard the foreign ship opened fire on coast guard officers who approached them to identify them. After the shooting, four men aboard the ship were killed and six others were wounded.
The injured were evacuated and provided medical assistance, authorities said.
Cuban officials have not yet released the identities of the dead. They said an investigation has been launched into the incident.
