Cybersecurity alert issued in the midst of growing geopolitical tensions

The Pakistan Bag and Securities Commission (SECP) has issued a cybersecurity notice, urging all companies to immediately strengthen their cybersecurity measures in response to increased geopolitical tensions and an increasingly complex landscape of threats.

The statement was issued at a time when security sources have revealed details of an important cyber -facilities by Pakistan, the operation of Bunyanum Marsoos, was carried out in response to Indian aggression. The operation directed the key infrastructure sectors throughout India.

The operation inflicted significant interruptions in multiple Indian domains, including energy and oil infrastructure systems, while causing serious damage to Indian communications by disabling the official emails of the government and the OTP infrastructure.

The notice, published on the SECP website, has been issued under section 40 (b) of the SECP law. He warned that the lack of addressing emerging cyber risks could lead to operational interruptions, data violations, financial losses and damage to reputation.

The regulator described several immediate cybersecurity recommendations for companies, including the implementation of multifactor authentication, restricted access controls, training of employees on phishing and false communications, and regular vulnerability evaluations.

Other key measures recommended include maintaining out -of -line data, updating antivirus and firewall protections, devices and hardening systems by patching known vulnerabilities and forming internal equipment response equipment to incidents.

By emphasizing the coordination and preparation of incidents, the SECP also advised companies to establish internal incident response equipment, regularly consult the notices of the National Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) and coordinate with relevant cyber security organizations to share intelligence and timely detection of threats.

“The proactive cybersecurity steps are essential to safeguard the financial infrastructure and information of Pakistan,” said the commission, urging companies to maintain close communication with the SECP on the progress of the implementation.
