A severe heat wave continues to grab most of Pakistan’s parts, with the temperatures that are expected to remain significantly above normal during the weekend, according to the Department of Meteorology of Pakistan (PMD).

A strong high pressure system that prevails in the upper atmosphere is promoting extreme conditions, which are forecast to persist for at least three or four more days.

It is likely that day temperatures are triggered from 5 to 7 ° C above seasonal averages in the regions of the north and central, including Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Cashmira and Gilgit-Baltistan, until May 19.

In the southern half, including Sindh, Southern Punjab and Baluchistan, it is forecast that temperatures will remain from 4 to 6 ° C above normal until May 20.

On Friday and Saturday, most areas are expected to experience very hot and dry conditions, with particularly affected southern and central districts.

During the last 24 hours, the warm and dry climate prevailed throughout the country, with very hot conditions in the plains.

The highest temperatures recorded were 48 ° C in Tobat and Dadu, and 47 ° C in Dera Ghazi Khan.

It is forecast that the main urban centers such as Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Finen and Peshawar will experience maximum daily between 40 ° C and 48 ° C during the weekend.

Coastal cities such as Karachi will remain hot and humid, while interior districts such as Dadu and Mohenjo-Daro can see maximum higher than 50 ° C.

The authorities advise the public to stay hydrated, avoid outdoor activities during peak hours and take heat wave precautions, especially for vulnerable populations.
