Retaining the tears after Allgaier qualified on the track, Dale Jr. said he could not “believe that we arrived at the race on Sunday.”

Earnhardt Jr. has returned to Daytona International on numerous occasions since his father Dale was killed after crashing in the last round of the 2001 race. It is safe to assume that it was not easy for him to return.

However, Dale Jr. said Thursday night that after his father’s footsteps, he needed to learn to be well with the return.

He did that and more. Although, he joked that he needs “a psychiatrist” to describe his emotions.

“Dad loved Daytona,” Earnhardt said. “I loved winning here. I loved winning any race here. He loved to add to that number whatever (34). God, I loved coming here as a child. Only many memories. So when he died, I had to make a decision .

“I knew that it was not the track that took it. I knew that, wherever it was, I still felt the same for Daytona. Then, I have accepted it. He lost his life in this property approached this property more.

Allgaier won his first Xfinity title last season. He finished second in 2020 and 2023 and has become one of the most popular pilots during his 14 seasons in the Xfinity series.

Earnhardt won two Daytona 500, in 2004 and 2014, and 26 races in general. But he never won a cup championship or was close to matching the achievements of his late father of the Hall of Fame, who won seven titles and was known as “The intimacy.”
