The New York Knicks advanced to the final conference for the first time in a quarter of a century last month, and chief coach Tom Thibodeau was attributed to help the Knicks end the drought of Playoffs of the franchise.
The Indiana Pacers won the series in six games and have faced the Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA finals.
While it was widely believed that the deep playoff career of the Knicks meant that Thibodeau would return for a sixth season, the organization dismissed him on Tuesday.

The Knicks have started a search for their next chief coach. While Dan Hurley’s name has been linked to the opening of the work, UConn’s chief coach seems to have little interest in making the jump to the NBA.
“No other summer of that,” Hurley told The Hartford Courant.

This is not the first time that the name of the two -time Coach Champion of the NCAA has been linked to the rumors of the NBA. Last summer, Hurley flew to Los Angeles to talk to the Lakers about their training vacancy.

Hurley rejected a six -year contract offer from the Lakers in favor of returning to Stords, Connecticut, to pursue a third consecutive title. Hurley trained the Huskies to the title of the Division I of the NCAA in 2023 and 2024.
After Hurley’s rejection, the Lakers turned and hired JJ Redick. The decision was found with some criticism due to the lack of Redick’s experience.

Uconn had some ups and downs during the regular season 2024-25 and entered the 2025 NCAA tournament as a seed number 8. The Huskies lost to the Florida Gators in the second round. Florida defeated Houston in the national championship game last month.
Instead, Hurley agreed for a six -year extension with UCONN last summer. The agreement links it with the Huskies during the 2029 season.
In other places, another potential candidate for Knicks coach left the board on Wednesday when ESPN reported that the Phoenix Suns had hired Jordan Ott as his next chief coach.
