Davante Adams has long been one of the broader physicists of the NFL, but could not free himself from the tenacious recruitment press of the Los Angeles Rams coach, Sean McVay.
“Honestly, the period has not spent too much time since I have been a free man, and they wanted to make sure he had it like this, that is safe,” Adams said at his introductory press conference on Thursday.
Adams said McVay’s attention was one of the main reasons he signed a two -year contract that could be worth up to $ 46 million to join the Rams. Many of those conversations took place while Adams, 32, was on vacation in Japan.
“And, I mean, I thought he was there too,” Adams said. “I was talking to him more than I was talking to my wife. But he definitely showed a lot of interest.”
Adams said he met McVay in Kentucky derby in 2019. In October, Adams had five receptions for 133 yards for the Green Bay Packers against the Rams. McVay expressed his appreciation for Adams’s work, which first caused the idea of a possible collaboration.
It was not until Adams became a free agent for the first time after 11 seasons with the Packers, the Raiders of Las Vegas and the New York aircraft that completely understood how much McVay appreciated it.
“He sent me a couple of outstanding tapes of myself,” said Adams. “It was a bit of Jon Gruden a little.
“I thought he took that job to be on television for a minute when he was watching him, but yes, he only shows how much the ball means for him, how much priority was for him.”
ADAMS comes from its sixth reception race of 1,000 yards, ending with 85 trapped, 1,063 yards and eight touchdowns in 14 games with the raiders and jets. It offers production and experience to compensate for the loss of the unconditional Cooper Kupp, who was released after the Rams could not find a commercial partner for the MVP of the Super Bowl 56.
The presence of ADAMS could launch a different aspect to McVay’s offensive, which has tended to trust KUPP or Star Breakout Puka Nacua to give the receptors the free release of the scrimmage line to find space at the short or intermediate levels of the defense.
With 6 feet 1 and 215 pounds, ADAMS can create separation on your own. He is also an expert in the red zone to make disputed captures, something that the Rams fought last season. They occupied the 25th in the percentage of Touchdown goal in the regular season and were 2 for 5 to score touchdowns in the red zone in a defeat of Divisional Playoffs of the NFC against the Eagles Philadelphia in January.
“He knows my soccer insight, and it is nothing in which he is going to enter, you know, I put my foot down, ‘I know the ball so much, do it in my way'”, Adams said about his discussions with McVay. “But it’s a bit help when they both see it in the same way. At this time, I imagine it seems like that for the year.”
In Adams estimate, Rams have everything I could have wanted in a new destination. They have a team capable of challenging the Super Bowl, as evidenced by their 28-22 defeat in the snow to give the eventual Eagles champion their toughest postseason test. They have a veteran field marshal in Matthew Stafford, who previously accentuated the game of another great body receiver in Calvin Johnson.
“The Rams movement feels very substantive, perhaps a two -year agreement to align in an excellent offensive culture with Sean McVay and Matt Stafford,” said Colin Cowherd in “The Herd.”
The Rams also allow Adams to be closer to family and friends, return to their native California after growing in the Bay area and attend the university in the state of Fresno.
Even Adams’s number 17 shirt was available, with Nacua making a voluntary change after its first two outstanding seasons as a professional.
“Before knowing with certainty if I headed to Los Angeles, he was already talking about using (No.) 12,” Adams said. “For everyone who wants to hate me for buying new shirts, I didn’t tell him. I didn’t pay him. I did nothing. That was out of the kindness of his heart, and used it at the university, so I suppose it makes sense.”
