Davey Johnson, twice manager of the year who administered the New York Mets of 1986 to a World Series Championship, died at age 82.
Johnson was three times World Series champion, winning two as a player. But none of them was as remarkable as the title that brought Queens.
Below 5-3 at the bottom of the tenth in game 6 against the Red Boston socks, the Mets recovered to win the game, crowned by Bill Buckner’s mistake, which forced a game 7. The Amazin won that game and his second title.

Before becoming a manager, Johnson was four times All-Star as a player, winning three consecutive Glove Gove awards from 1969 to 1971. Those, along with his two titles as a player, came with the Orioles of Baltimore.
Ironically, Johnson flew to Cleon Jones to give the METS his first World Series title in 1969.
Johnson also handled the Cincinnati Reds, Orioles, Los Angeles Dodgers and Washington Nationals. He also handled the United States at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and the 2009 World Baseball Classic.

Johnson is one of the 15 managers who finish more than 300 games above .500, winning 85 or more games in all but a season as a manager. It occupies the tenth place in all the time winning among the managers with at least 1,000 victories.
He was one of the first analysis champions, disputing alignments and decisions with the Hall of Fame Earl Weaver.
