A body full of shooting from the former Punjab minister and leader of Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI) Iqbal in the Samanabad de Lahore area was recovered, police said the police on Monday.

The authorities found the body in the property rooms, located in New Mogang.

The deceased has not yet been identified, but the police estimated that age must be between 30 and 35 years old.

The authorities said the service rooms had been rented a few months ago by a police officer named Arshad, who has now been summoned to interrogate.

“The body was broken, making identification difficult,” said a police source, adding that forensic teams had collected evidence of the crime scene.

The authorities have not yet determined the reason behind the murder and are working to track the suspects.

Aslam Iqbal began his political career as an independent candidate, winning a seat of the Punjab assembly in 2002 before joining PML-Q and serving as a tourism minister of Punjab until 2007.

Later he joined PTI and was re -elected in the 2013 and 2018 provincial elections, ensuring a ministerial role in the Punjab Cabinet Bajo Usman Buzdar. He occupied wallets for industries, commerce, investment and briefly for information and culture.

In 2022, he became the main minister in the administration of Parvez Elahi.

In 2024, PTI nominated him as his candidate for Punjab Prime Minister.
