DECEÑIOUS CLAIMS DISTRIBUTED ON THE INCREASE IN PUNJAB PUBLIC REGISTRATION AND SERVICES RATES

Multiple publications on social networks affirm that the Punjab government has considerably increased registration rates for motorcycles, electric bicycles, arms licenses, new electrical connections for households and water charges for farmers.

Some of these statements are false, while others are misleading.

Say

On April 16, a social media user on Facebook published a message in Urdu alleging that the Punjab government had increased several rates:

  • The motorcycle registration rates increased from RS1,500 to RS7,400
  • Registration of RS50 to RS2,865 electric bicycles
  • RS4,000 to RS48,000 weapons license fees
  • New National Electricity Connection of RS7,600 to RS24,000
  • Annual irrigation water charges (ABIANA) for RS600 farmers per RS2,200 per acre
  • The motorcycle physical conditioning certificate will be RS1,000 as of July 1

Claims on the increase in rates for arms licenses, motorcycle registration, physical conditioning certificates, water charges and electricity connections are misrepresented. This is what we verify:

Weapons licenses: RS48,000?

Tauseef Sabih Gondal, spokesman for the Department of Interior of Punjab, said Geographic data verification These weapons licenses have not been issued since April 2024 due to continuous prohibition.

He added that since no new licenses have been issued, the rate has not changed either.

Although online publications claim that the new rate is 48,000, Gondal clarified that before the ban (during the caregiver of the caregiver in 2023), the rate was actually RS50,000, not RS48,000.

RS7,400 motorcycle registration rate?

Amber Jabeen, spokesman for the Minister of Finance, Special Taxes and Taxes of Punjab, said Geographic data verification that no proposal is discussed to increase motorcycle or electric bicycle registration rates.

He also shared a message from Uume Sher, the general director of the Department of Special Taxes and Taxes, which described the “speculation” claims.

While Like Amin, Director of Application and Audit in the Special Tax Department of Lahore, shared the official structure of the motorcycle registration fee:

  • Up to 70cc: RS1,000
  • 71cc at 100cc: RS1,500
  • 101CC at 125cc: RS2,000
  • 126cc at 150cc: RS2,500
  • Above 150cc: 2% of the motorcycle value

You can access the website here.

Therefore, there was no flat RS7,400 rate.

Amin also said that electric bicycles currently receive a 95% exemption in Token taxes and registration rates.

Motorcycle Fitness Certificates: RS1,000?

A spokesman for the Punjab Vehicle Inspection and Certification System (VICS) said Geographic data verification that an official notification has been issued on the collection of RS1,000 for the certificates of physical motorcycle conditioning.

He added that it is not yet confirmed if motorcycles even need physical conditioning certificates, since the vic have not received orders to inspect them.

Geographic data verification He also reviewed the provincial motor vehicle ordinance (amendment) 2025, approved on March 4 and discovered that motorcycles are not included in the list of vehicles that require physical aptitude certification.

Irrigation water charges: RS2,200 per acre

Rao Muhammad Sohail Akhtar, the Undersecretary of the Punjab Irrigation Department, denied the claim. He said no changes in water rates since December 5, 2023.

He also shared the December 2023 notification, which shows:

  • The rates vary from RS400 to RS2,000 per acre, depending on the harvest
  • However, for state lifting irrigation, the rate was RS2,250 per acre

New electrical connection – RS24,000

Muhammad Saeed Raza, Public Relations officer of Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (Fesco), he said Geographic data verification That the claim of a fixed RS24,000 rate is inaccurate.

The current official rates were:

  • Single -phase meter (3KW): RS11,000 + RS3,660 Security Deposit
  • Three -phase meter (5KW): RS40,000 + RS6,100 Security Deposit

Verdict: Claims on increasing weapon licenses, motorcycle record, physical aptitude certificates, irrigation water and electrical connections are false or misleading. Official sources confirm that these rates have not increased as stated online.
