Deion Sanders doesn’t mince words.

The Colorado Buffaloes football coach instituted a fine policy for players who violate team rules as he prepares for the upcoming 2026 season. Being late to practice will result in a $500 fine, while skipping it entirely will cost $2,500.

Sanders announced the fines to the team last week. The structure was also seen in a video posted by his son on the YouTube channel Well Off Media. The system was not tied to the rise of name, image and likeness agreements that have taken over college football and was not tied to on-field performance. It was strictly for violating team rules, which is allowed, according to Colorado.

One of the most important rules had to do with the team’s equipment. Transfer players wearing t-shirts, sweatshirts, or anything else from their former teams were strictly prohibited.

“That’s disrespectful,” Sanders said in the video. “That would be like your lady currently wearing her (ex-boyfriend’s) stuff. How do you feel about that? She’s sitting there wearing a shirt that had her (ex-boyfriend’s) name on it. … That’s what I feel when I see you walk into the cafeteria: you eat our food with your latest outfit on. Obviously, if you wanted to stay there, you should have stayed.”

Other fines included $2,000 for failing to show up for a meeting or movie and $400 for being late. A player will be fined $1,500 for not showing up for training and $1,000 for arriving late. A player can also be fined $2,500 for a violation of team rules and up to $5,000 for public or social media misconduct.

Sanders also bans profanity outside the meeting room and stressed the importance of being respectful to women.
