- Dell Pro Max 18 Plus Workstation already supports up to 128 GB of CAMM2 RAM
- The 256 GB configuration is expected soon for heavy or AI data work
- Interestingly, there is no AMD support despite the CLEAR AI and the design objectives focused on performance
Dell plans to offer a laptop of high -end work station with a mass memory option of 256 GB at the end of this year.
The Dell Pro Max 18 Plus is now available to buy now and is located at the top of Dell’s mobile work station, as we prejudice that it would do it last year.
It is driven by an Intel Core Ultra 9 285HX processor, paired with a NVIDIA RTX Pro 5000 Blackwell GPU, and admits up to 4 TB SSD storage, which makes it one of the best commercial laptops.
But there is no AMD option?
Memory settings begin with only 16 GB 6400MTS DDR5 CSODIMM and users can update at 32GB or 64 GB using dual modules.
There is also the 128 GB option of 6400mts CAMM2 double channel memory, although it will pay a premium for it, in fact $ 1,895 additional to the total price.
And if 128 GB is not enough, Dell plans to offer an option of 256 GB of RAM CAMM2 later in the year.
While 256 GB will be far beyond what most users need, they could attract engineers, researchers and developers regularly with demanding data sets and workloads with computing weights.
Dell has made thermal improvements in the Pro Max 18 Plus to maintain constant performance under load. It states a 44 percent increase in graphics performance compared to the previous 18 -inch model.
The system also has a better service capacity, with a modular USB-C port and an easily accessible update panel.
Combined with Dell management tools and security characteristics, it is clearly built for business environments.
A remarkable omission is AMD support. Dell’s Pro Max 14 includes Ryzen AI processors and is part of the Copilot+line, which makes it even more unusual than the 18 plus, positioned as the most capable model, does not offer AMD options.
With Ryzen processors widely praised for their NPU performance and strong efficiency, its absence can be a kind of decisive factor for users looking for alternatives focused on AI.
We can only expect Dell to see the error of its forms and bring AMD options to future pro max models.
