Peshawar:
Recent rains and changing climate patterns have alarm bells for Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s health department, since the number of active dengue cases in the province has risen to 90.
According to official figures, a total of 398 people have been infected with dengue so far, while 308 have recovered. In the last 24 hours alone, 82 new cases were confirmed.
The largest number of active cases has been informed of Charsadda, where currently 73 patients are under treatment. Other cases of districts report include Nowshera and Mansehra (three each), Swabi (three), Lakki Marwat (two), Abbottabad (two), Haripur (one), Mardan (one), Peshawar (one) and tank (one).
Health officials warned that stagnant water left by recent rains could provide reproduction shoes for dengue mosquitoes. All district health officers have been ordered to intensify surveillance and preventive measures in their respective areas.
Special Assistant of the Principal Health Minister, Ehtesham Ali, clarified that the province does not face a dengue emergency. He urged the public not to pay attention to rumors, to adopt caution measures in homes and workplaces, and to seek immediate medical assistance in case of fever.
