“After exhaustive discussions as an organization, I met with Michael Wilhoite and informed him that we have decided to separate,” Payton said, through ESPN. “We recognize the serious nature of the accusations against him and we believe that this is the best course of action at this time. I appreciate Michael’s contributions to the Broncos and I am sure that it will advance in a positive direction.”
Wilhoite was arrested on February 23 for a second degree assault charge to a peace officer, according to prison records.
Wilhoite had left her self disregarded for a while, and an officer at the airport approached him and told him that he could not do that, KDVR-TV reported, citing a probable cause statement. He allegedly told the officer explicitly to shut up.
After they told him again about leaving the self unattended, Wilhoite supposedly approached the “an aggressive way and hit her chest in the victim, which made her step back.”
