After experiencing a limited game time while going back to Quinn Ewers during his first two seasons in Texas, Arch Manning opened his first season as a full -time start last Saturday.
The young Quarterback finished the defeat of 14-7 for the opening of the season against Ohio State with 170 air yards, a touchdown and an interception. The disappointing performance caused mixed reactions of fans and the outstanding sports figures.
The winner of the Heisman trophy and the ESPN analyst “College Gameday”, Desmond Howard, was among the last to offer thoughts about whether Manning will recover and will finally be up to the advertising.

Howard, who won the Heisman Trophy in 1991, suggested that Manning should not have been included in the low season discussions about the main candidates for the most coveted trophy of university football.
“All the exaggeration and Heisman speak around them were unjustified,” Howard said in the Thursday edition of “The Rich Eisen Show.”
NFL Scout makes a forceful admission about Arch Manning’s exhibition against Ohio State: ‘Little difficult to see’
“He does not deserve to have his name in the same breath as that trophy.”
Howard also criticized what he observed from Manning when he saw a film of him playing and theorized that his last name protects him from some criticism.

“People don’t really want to criticize him, partly because he is a manning,” Howard added. “They want to stay in good favor with the Mannings, since they are a great name in our sport. So, what they do is make Matt Patricia, the defensive coordinator of Ohio State, only called this brilliant game that kept Steve Sarkisian and Arch Manning off balance for four whole rooms.”
The exaggeration that surrounds Arch, the nephew of the greats of the NFL Peyton and Eli Manning and grandson of Santos de New Orleans The Archie Manning legend, intensified when the 2025 season approached.

Howard also shared his thoughts on the list of the Longhorns as a whole, saying that the team was ultimately unable to survive a team of the Ohio state caliber along the way.
The explorers who saw the state game Texas-Ohio last Saturday were divided into Manning. An NFL explorer described the performance as “difficult to see”, while another adopted a more cautious approach to write the book on quarterback.
Texas then is scheduled to receive the state of San José on September 6.
