Money without object
We love to give practical purchase advice on the latest devices here in Techradar. But sometimes what we love even further It is enjoying the most ridiculous, high -end, avant -garde and luxurious technology of the planet. That is what we bring in these columns without money objects: you can read the entire series here.
The French audio specialist Devialet has launched two new models of his famous Phantom speaker, who says he represents “the pinnacle of luxury audio engineering.”
The new models are the 108DB flagship, which is $ 3,800 (around £ 2,800 / au $ 5,700), and the most affordable (relatively speaking) Ultimate 98db, which is $ 1,900 (£ 1,400 / au $ 2,850). There is also an opéra edition of Paris even more luxurious of $ 4,300 / $ 2,400 of each ultimate speaker that has accentuated with 22 carat gold sheet.
Both models have a slightly different design from the original Phantom: the Woofer nucleus cover is absent, and there is a new tweeter rack with an optimized opening. Devialet says he only took six months of research and “innumerable iterations.”
We are accustomed to the interesting design of Devialet, but what is really interesting about the new ghosts compared to old models, or the best wireless speakers in general, is what is inside.
The Phantoms and Opéra are here
Ghost speakers come with an avalanche of acronyms: ADH, SAM, HBI and AVL.
ADH is the abbreviation of Hybrid digital analog, and combines class A and class D amplification with an improved algorithm to bring the best of both worlds, offering frequencies of up to 35 kHz in the last 108dB.
Sam means Matching Active Speaker, which monitors drivers in real time to optimize audio reproduction.
My favorite is the slightly terrifying HBI, which is the implosion of serious hearts: it is “a set of multiphysical innovations” that drops the end low to an exceptionally low 14Hz.
And finally AVL, the adaptive volume level, appeared for the first time in the Devialet Done sound bar and automatically adjust the volume depending on the type of content.
All are managed by a new MXP I.mx 8M processor that Devialet says that it offers “advanced audio processing with better energy efficiency and optimized performance.”
In terms of specifications, it is seeing a frequency range of 14Hz to 35 kHz and 1,100W of amplification in the last 108db and 18Hz to 25khz with 400W in the last 98dB. Both models have Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, AirPlay, Google Cast, Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, UPNP and are ready for Ron.
The Phantom Ultimate 98DB is now available and 108DB is available for pre-pedd.
