The outputs of this month of HBO Max have a common color: red. It is the color of Hellboy and the color of Mars, and it is also the color of that Famous scene in the horror classic Carrie.
My three CATCH-EM-WHIP-YOU Ron Perlman is a sudden delight like an infernically powerful superhero, which adds a very welcome dose of growl to a genre that began to feel obsolete. Matt Damon is completely credible and completely convincing as a scientist stranded to millions of miles from home. And Sissy Spacek in Carrie is really exceptional, offering a heartbreaking and truly terrifying performance.
These are very different movies, but they are all exceptional. If you have already seen them, it is worth visiting again. And if you have not done it, a master class of films awaits you in one of the best transmission services.

Two Hau Soon they leave HBO: the original 1976 and the 2013 remake. The oldest film is much higher than the newest: the remake obtained only 51% with critics in Rotten Tomatoes and has been called “remarkably redundant”, “terrible terrible garbage” and “one of the worst remakes never made.” But the original film based on Stephen King’s horror classic is tremendous, with an amazing central performance by Sissy Space as the titular teenager who begins to suspect that he has supernatural powers. He is currently sitting with a huge rating of 94% of critics.
Carrie “He is a terrifying lyric thriller,” wrote the legendary critic of New Yorker Pauline Kael. “The director, Brian de Palma, has dominated a mocking style: a perverse mixture of comedy, horror and tension.” Looking back in the 2020s, Total Film wrote: “Brian de Palma transcends the feeling of pulposo horror by emphasizing the metaphor of sexuality of the awakestar-systemuality, and the use of some glorious tricks”, while the scare called it “a film operatic melodramas and the operational melodrams.”

Matt Damon spent a lot of time in space costumes in the 2010: there was (mild spoiler alert) Bad Space Matt in interstellar, and a good Matt space in this impressive solo performance. Damon is Mark Watney, left on Mars after a fierce storm leads his fellow explorers to think he is dead and leave the red planet without him. But he is not dead, and he would really like to get home.
The 91% critical qualification is well deserved. Empire magazine gave the film Four Stars: “Instantly joining ET and Freeman Lowell (Silent Running) by Bruce Dern (Silent Running) in the pantheon of the best space gardeners of the cinema, Watney de Damon is the actor in his most attract and tensions in a huge can.

Like Carrie, there is more than one Infernal bird film and the original is much better than the remake: the 2019 reset of Infernal bird I obtained a critical qualification of 17% frankly shameful. That is partly due to the fact that Guillermo del Toro had in the chair of the director or Ron Perlman in the prostheses of Hellboy. The film is “a unique game,” said the New Yorker, “with an exciting but vulnerable superhero in the center that turns out to be the engendro of Satan.”
NPR also got excited about that. “Anyone can send an immense computer -generated vegetable monster at the base of the Brooklyn bridge, but a special type of imagination is needed to do it in an exciting way, emotionally complex and enthusiastic at once.” Waiting time of agreement. “Del Toro, in love with his source but never overvalued by her, keeps things in motion; Perlman unites him with some of the driest mills on this side of Indiana Jones.”
