Digital investment of $ 700 million to empower young Pakistani, says Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a historical commitment of $ 700 million in Digital Investments abroad (DFDI), with the aim of unlocking the potential of Pakistan’s youth and positioning the country as a leader in the global digital economy.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Digital Digital Investment Forum of two days in Islamabad on Tuesday, the Prime Minister expressed his optimism that committed investments will accelerate the progress of Pakistan in the fields of information technology (TI) and artificial intelligence (AI).

“Pakistan will emerge as a leading force in the IT sector,” he said, inviting international investors to capitalize on the vast group of talents and the country’s digital infrastructure.

The Prime Minister declared that the young people of Pakistan, both at home and abroad, are demonstrating exceptional talent and energy in digital innovation. He stressed the government’s commitment to build IT parks, incubation centers and a robust training ecosystem.

A key initiative includes a new association with the Chinese technological giant Huawei to provide annual skills training to 200,000 young Pakistani.

In a broader context of economic performance, the prime minister stressed that remittances reached a historical maximum of $ 4.1 billion in March, which reflects a strong participation abroad and financial confidence in the country’s direction.

The Minister of Information Technology, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, detailed the recent steps in the sector, including a 25% increase in IT exports during the first nine months of the current fiscal year.

He also revealed continuous efforts to develop a National Integral Policy of AI and highlighted the government’s impulse towards an economy without effective and inclusive through an advanced digital public infrastructure.

Khawaja also pointed out significant growth in the mobile manufacturing sector, with a local production in 48% in the last year and more than 31 million devices now produced annually.

She accredited the Government’s digital policies for rapid digitalization in public departments and reiterated her vision of a “digital economy, digital governance and digital society.”
