- A rendering filtering of the DJI Mini 5 Pro seems to reveal the drone design
- A separate image of the box may also have revealed its specifications
- Leaks suggest a 1 inch sensor and an automatic approach with Lidar
It seems unlikely that the DJI Mini 5 Pro will reach its release date of August 7 previously rumored, but fans of the small drones have at least given some comfort in the form of two large leaks, and hint a small flying camera that could be worth waiting for a little more.
First, a rendering of the best drones in the world was shared on the Discord channel for Drone-Hacks, giving us what could be our first look at drone.
If the image is correct, the mini 5 pro will be very similar to its predecessor mini 4 pro, apart from a larger camera module and the inclusion of two lidar sensors oriented forward for a better avoidance of obstacles.
That motor feature has previously appeared in the DJI Mavic 4 Pro and DJI Air 3s, but this would be the first time we see it in a mini series drone, and it could be particularly useful if it flies with little light.
Mini 5 pro rendering rendering! The filtration did not come from our team, some beta tester shared an image in public discord. Thanks for the credit even! #MINI5PRO https://t.co/lv1eqjcykdAugust 3, 2025
Even more revealing is the potential list of specifications, shared by @jasPerellens and Dronexl. According to some leaked containers, the DJI Mini 5 Pro will have a 1 inch image sensor, in front of the 1/1.3 -inch chip in the mini 4 PRO, and will be able to shoot 4K/120FPS images, another slight impulse of the 4K/100FPS mode of its predecessor.
In another place, there is a promise of a “high quality 48 mm mode”, which will presumably be similar to the one that recently arrived in the Pocket 3 of DJI, thanks to a firmware update. This is effectively a “lossless” mode that can be useful if you need a little more scope.
The escape also promises a flight time of 36 minutes, which would be a slight impulse in the 34 minutes claimed by the mini 4 pro (or 45 minutes, if disbursement for the intelligent flight battery Plus, which is not available in the EU).
The big question
While these mini 5 pro specifications sound very promising, and they could consider updating my DRON MINI 3 PRO, there is a slightly worrying omission of the box and the specifications sheet.
In general, there is a label “less than 249 g” that accompanies the description “Ultra light and folding” in a mini series. That is not there this time, at least not in the filtered packaging.
Does this mean that the mini 5 pro could be the first of the series to exceed that crucial weight? In many regions, including the United States and the United Kingdom, a weight of less than 250 g is a point of sale because flight regulations are more relaxed. For example, in the Open A1 category in the United Kingdom, it can fly on strangers (but not crowds) without any additional permission.
There is the possibility that the new Mini 5 Pro technology (larger camera, lidar sensors, perhaps new engines) has pushed it above the weight limit, but I would be surprised if that were the case.
The entire point of sale of the mini series has been that they offer advanced camera technology in a package that is barely larger than a camera lens, and also bent up under that crucial weight barrier. I love my DJI Mini 3 Pro for all those reasons, so a new model that does not mark all the same boxes would not have the same attraction.
Unfortunately, it seems that the mini 5 pro has been postponed from its previously rumored launch date, so it is possible that we have to wait a time to see it, and to find out if it will really go on sale in the US. UU.
