- Emergency access works through Proton VPN, Proton Mail, Proton Pass and Proton Drive
- This has been a very requested characteristic among the protons community, said the supplier
Ensure that no third can access your files, passwords or online activities is certainly crucial to safeguard your privacy and safety, but you can complicate the recovery of important information in case of emergency. So far, if you are a proton subscriber, at least.
Proton has just launched Emergency Access, a feature that allows paid users to designate up to five trust contacts to access their accounts in their name. Users have total control about when and how trust contacts give access.
One of the most requested characteristics of the proton community, explains the supplier, emergency access works in Proton VPN, Proton Mail, Proton Pass and Proton Drive.
“Like all Proton products and characteristics, emergency access has been designed with privacy and safety in mind and offers users an effective tool to add an additional security and tranquility layer to your proton account without compromising end -to -end encryption,” said Senior Products Manager in Proton, Daniel Rivera Jäggi.
As of today, on August 28, Proton’s emergency access is available through the web browser for all paid users, regardless of the plan.
How to use Proton’s emergency access
Taking advantage of Proton’s emergency access could not be easier.
All you need to do is Go to you Protons account board through the web browser and Select recovery, and then click on Add emergency contact.
To choose a trust contact, you will have to add your email address. This must be associated with a proton account, whether free or paid.
Then you can completely customize how trustworthy contacts will enter their encrypted data by choosing the desired waiting time to give access. You can also revoke or modify your emergency access contacts and configurations at any time.
Your chosen trusted accounts will receive an email notification by informing them that they have been chosen as an emergency contact.
For all the details, you must go to the Proton support page here.
Remember, you will have to update to a proton plan paid to use the emergency access function.
