Well, for the IPAD faithful, Apple’s WWDC 2025 key note was the day the faith was rewarded. I, like innumerable others, I have been waiting for an important update for iPados, and the technological giant based in Cupertino delivered.
Yes, Ipados 26 brings with it liquid glass, but what is more important for all the iPads that admit it, will obtain a real window multitage, the ability to release folders on the dock, a top menu bar, one of the most addictive gestures that I have used and the ability that tasks are executed in the background.
Easily, it was the prominent moment of the keyboard, and I had to go to practice briefly with Ipados 26 that is executed on a 13 -inch iPad Pro with M4 connected to a magic keyboard with an Apple Pencil Pro.
Now, let’s approach the elephant in the room, allowing those historical characteristics that I listed previously causes the iPad to look like a MAC, but it does not call this a Mac. Yes, Apple took some characteristics of the MAC instead of reinventing the entire concept, for example, to close, minimize or expand buttons in the upper left or in the menu bar, but all this is well thought about for the iPad of an iPad.
Multyouch.
With the iPad approach, it is a kind of adventure of choosing, while in the MAC, it is keyboard and clues. I used it and saw a fingers that controlled the windows, as well as using the Apple Pencil to move elements and even the cursor. This is control, since, as you see and want to use it, you can do it to get more from your iPad. Let’s talk about why.
Let’s start with the most exciting part, from any application, you can get out of the lower corner, it is established with an effect, a slightly darker edge in the lower right part, to change the easy window size by pulling forward and backward. Then, from the full screen, simply throw it to the other side to make it smaller, by wide or height, and then you can grab the upper window to place it wherever you want.
Using the dock, you can drag and release another application or make a sliding for the view mode to access your home screen and place any application in this design. It is really soft and allows you to finally have your definitive iPad design. Maybe that is a safari window open to a Google meeting on the corner, the application of reminders for your verification list and email at the beginning of your day.
You can also divide the screen with an image and then open an application like procreate, which allows you to see your starting point while drawing something incredible. It really allows you to adapt the experience of how it seems appropriate.
Now, this new windows configuration replaces SplitView and Slideover, and although that did not excite me when I heard for the first time, I like the various pre -established options that you can choose through a long press in the upper left corner of any window and the new gesture.
With a film to the left or the right, you can divide your screen effortlessly and then adjust it even more moving the sliding control in the medium as necessary. This feels as an easy way to achieve a result similar to Splitview, and is frankly fun to do so.
You can also touch the upper part of the iPad screen to access a menu bar for things such as more precise settings or easy exports: it is the most similar part of the experience to the Mac. Even so, taking into account that it is hidden until you need it, I think that iPad electric users will probably take full advantage of this.
It feels really natural in this implementation, and not in a copy and stuck with MAC cookies cutter, given the updated elements and the ability to control with touch and trackpad.
Complementing the new multitasking approach is a significantly improved file application and a dock that can now show a live folder. The application will feel familiar, but a new list view with the ability to customize modifiers, also known as columns that you see, will really allow you to adapt this for your specific needs.
For example, I could see me classifying the last modified and then attract the folder that contains images to the dock to edit in an application like Pixelmator, export and then upload it in a content management system for a compilation of a story. The changes made within the folders or in these designs can be synchronized on the devices and also updated in ICloud. If you are a fan of colored folders and you are interested in appointing with emojis, you also get this.
Those larger exports, perhaps a batches photo editor or an export of final cut Pro video, can now be executed in the background. I obtain a demonstration of this, and lives in the upper part of your device with a progress bar or on a small icon near your time where you can track multiple exports or tasks.
The really exciting part, even of these demonstrations and a bit of use, is the fact that this is not limited only to the iPad Pro with M4 or the Air iPad with M3 or even another passage model. This new multitasking experience is the result of a new ‘window prioritization model’ that works together with the performance and resources administrator. It has been completely rearmed to execute on any iPad that admits iPados 26.
Which means that the ipad of the ninth generation, one of the best values that Apple has launched, will obtain this new multitasking experience, the same for the tenth, 11 or 13th generation, the iPad Air, iPad Mini and Pro. It is possible that it is possible that it is possible that it is possible to open a dozen there at the same time, but will allow you to push the chip inside.
For now, Ipados 26 is in a beta developer version, which means that it is not for its main device, since errors and problems are expected, but a public beta version will arrive in July, and this will be released for all with an eligible device in the fall. I am very excited to spend time with him and eventually give him a complete review treatment, but for now, it is the update that we have been waiting for you to feel clearly as an iPad.
Of course, the MAC has been the latest in productivity, but that lacks contact and is really designed for keyboard and trackpad. The iPad is multitouch first, and Apple really dedicates the time to create an experience that feels done on purpose for multiple entries, being Touch first.
Only a fair warning, I will use many, many windows.
