- iOS 26.1 changes the alarm interface by removing the ‘Stop’ button
- While this is a useful modification, not everyone will like it.
- Fortunately, there is a setting that allows you to recover the button.
If you’ve downloaded iOS 26.1, you may have noticed that a few things have changed in Apple’s operating system, and perhaps the most notable of those changes is the way it dismisses alarms.
Now, instead of just tapping a button, you have to swipe across the screen. The idea here is that because this is an action that requires more intention and thought, you’re less likely to accidentally ignore an alarm while you’re half asleep.
So for many people this will be a useful update, but for those who don’t accidentally turn off their alarms, the “slide to stop” gesture might be more annoying, as it makes turning off alarms a slightly more complicated process.
But there’s good news: While iPhones running iOS 26.1 will now default to “slide to stop,” you can choose to change it back to a button.
A simple change
To do this, simply go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch. From here, you’ll find a new ‘Prefers one-touch actions‘ toggle at the bottom.
Activate this and the alarm screen will once again display a button, so you can tap it to dismiss an alarm. Just don’t blame us (or Apple) if you accidentally do that and end up sleeping too much.
And if you haven’t downloaded iOS 26.1 yet, we recommend doing so even if you don’t want the new alarm interface, as it also includes other changes, such as a way to tone down Liquid Glass, gesture controls for Apple Music, and more.
