- Disney Plus to offer HDR10+ streaming of movies and TV shows
- It joins Prime Video and Apple by offering support for the HDR format

Disney Plus will support HDR10+ streaming on movies and TV shows in the future, Media Play News reported. There is currently no timeline for when this will happen.
The announcement was made at a press conference at CES 2025 by a representative of Communication Research Inc.
Disney Plus joins some of the best streaming services like Prime Video, Apple TV Plus, Hulu, Paramount Plus, and YouTube in supporting the premium HDR format. Disney Plus will also continue to offer Dolby Vision HDR streaming.
HDR10+ is a premium HDR format that allows you to obtain a more dynamic, brighter and contrast-rich image than SDR and HDR10. It not only supports streaming but also 4K Blu-ray.
Why is this good news for Samsung TV owners? Until now, Disney Plus only offered Dolby Vision HDR quality, and since Samsung TVs do not support Dolby Vision and opt to support HDR10+, viewers were unable to take full advantage of their hardware. With support for HDR10+ on Disney Plus, Samsung TVs, some of the best TVs out there, will now get an improved picture when watching the best shows on Disney Plus.
Samsung TVs aren’t the only ones that support HDR10+. Hisense, TCL, Panasonic and Philips in the UK all offer HDR10+ and Dolby Vision compatible models. However, LG and Sony do not support HDR10+, not even in more premium equipment such as the LG C4 OLED or the Sony Bravia 9, but instead opt only for Dolby Vision HDR compatibility.
Big news for Samsung
It’s always seemed like a strange decision for Samsung to continually give up Dolby Vision support on its TVs; a decision that has not changed with its 2025 OLED televisions or its 2025 mini-LED televisions.
Many streaming services like Netflix and Disney Plus originally opted to only support the Dolby Vision HDR format, meaning Samsung owners would miss out on the best possible picture quality on their TVs. A television like the Samsung S95D for example, one of the best OLED televisions of 2024, deserves the best quality in a streaming service.
But this decision by Disney means that Samsung TV fans, and crucially potential customers, can now buy with a little more confidence knowing that another streaming service has joined the seemingly growing group of streaming sites to offer HDR10+ streaming .
It remains to be seen if other streaming services will offer HDR10+ support (looking at you, Netflix and Max), but until then, Samsung lovers now have one more service they can watch on the best Samsung TVs in optimal quality.
