The deadline for the end of Windows 10’s life is almost on us. Next month, on October 14, 2025, Microsoft will stop the support for Windows 10, which means that there are no more functions or security functions for the operating system.
If you are running a PC with Windows 10, and you have not yet thought about its options, you must start doing it and fast. In just over a couple of weeks, that deadline will be here, and the last official security update for Windows 10 will be sent.
So what are your options at this time? That is what I am going to happen in this article, considering some options: to ensure that it cannot be updated to Windows 11 (it is worth verifying one thing, assuming that it would change to the newest operating system, if it could), taking advantage of free updates for another year, and finally, simply remain in Windows 10 without support.
The latter is not really recommended, and I will make clear why that is the case when we reach that option, but it is still a (dangerous) path that some may be considering.
Verify to make sure you can’t definitely update to Windows 11
The first thing is the first, you can hate the idea of Windows 11 and not want to update at all, in which case, stop reading this part now and jump to the next section. However, assuming that Windows 11 would be updated if possible, but it cannot because its PC does not meet the system requirements, then it is worth verifying one thing.
While Windows Update, or the PC Health Check application, you can tell you that you cannot update Windows 11 because your system does not meet the requirements of having TPM 2.0, that might not be true. It may be that your computer has this security function, but it is simply not activated. In some cases, you can enable TPM 2.0 in the BIOS, and you must definitely verify, follow this explanatory to do so.
If you can turn on TPM 2.0, you should now (hopefully) be able to update Windows 11 before the support runs out for Windows 10. Otherwise, continue forward to explore the other options below.
In the last minute, Microsoft changed its additional free support offer for Windows 10, eliminating all the strings for those living in Europe.
If that includes, all you have to do is go to Windows Update, where you should see a link to register to obtain extended safety updates just below the option to verify updates. Click on the ‘Register now’ button and follow the instructions. If it is a Windows 10 user in the European Economic Area (EEE), all you need to do is have a Microsoft account.
All outside of Europe must synchronize their PC configuration with Microsoft to obtain the additional year of free support for Windows 10.
The process is the same as the previous one: Go to Windows Update and find the option to register to obtain extended security updates (it is just below where it verifies the updates). Click on the ‘Register now’ button and then follow the instructions, but in this case, you will need to use the Windows backup application to synchronize the configuration of your PC with OneDrive (Microsoft cloud storage locker).
If you do not want to synchronize the configuration of your Windows 10 computer with Microsoft OneDrive, you can simply pay the additional year of free support.
Once again, use the ‘now register’ button in Windows Update (as described above) to do this, but choose any of the options to pay: you can pay $ 30 (or the regional equivalent), or spend 1,000 Microsoft rewards points (assuming, of course, it has so many).
Simply stay at Windows 10 without any update
If you do not want to pay anything to Microsoft, do not trust the company and, therefore, you do not want to synchronize any content on your PC with your cloud storage, then you can be tempted to continue moving forward with Windows 10 except any update.
In a nutshell: don’t do this.
It may seem that you will be fine, and for a while, you can be. Who knows, is a roll of dice, frankly. However, those monthly security updates that all who registered to obtain extended support will be vital to maintain any safe and safe PC.
This is because as it passes every month, more and more vulnerabilities will arise in Windows 10. And without security updates, they will remain unfaded, which means that computer pirates could exploit these holes in the operating system. The longer it works, the more feats they will remain open, and the more likely it can be prey to some dire type. And do not make mistakes, there are people who will actively try to find Windows 10 systems without blinking to commit.
And if you think Microsoft ‘bite her in her business’ by having the configuration of her synchronized PC is bad, it really is nothing compared to the horror that could be visited if a hacker manages to exploit your computer, perhaps obtaining malware in your system. It is also worth remembering that it is only synchronizing the PC configuration with Microsoft servers to obtain extended support, not any of their personal data (and none of this applies to those of Europe anyway, as noted, so that the people of that region really have no excuse).
In general, this is not a path that wants to travel down, and whatever does, do not postpone and remain automobile with a non -compatible and unprotected copy of Windows 10.
