Do you want to use the Panama Canal? You could reduce the line with BTC, the mayor of the city of Panama reflects

Las Vegas, Nevada – The mayor of the city of Panama, Mayer Mizrachi, is taking notes on Bitcoin from the leader of El Salvador.

Speaking in Bitcoin 2025 in Las Vegas on Thursday, Mizrachi said he has been thinking about the ways in which the capital city of Panama, which is the home of the Panama Canal, could implement Bitcoin payments.

This potentially includes a Bitcoin strategic reserve for Panama City, as well as possibly taking pays, even for the Panama Canal, in Bitcoin, said Mizrachi.

“What happens if you have a benefit payable in Bitcoin?” Mizrachi reflected. “You could go faster.”

Under Mizrachi, Panama City approved a bill that allows residents to pay taxes, parking tickets, permits and other rates with Bitcoin

Ether and some stablecoins.

Four years ago, in Bitcoin 2021, Nayib Bukele, the leader of the Central American neighbor of Panama, El Salvador, announced that his country would begin accepting Bitcoin as legal tender. Mizrachi said he was directly inspired by Bukele’s policies.
