- The famous online 4chan forum is currently offline
- According to reports, a hacker took the site offline and leaked confidential data
- Imageball “rival” users are celebrating
According to the reports, the infamous anonymous Imagoard 4Chan has been pirate and disconnected, and the website cannot load.
Apparently, a hacker was living in 4chan systems “for more than a year” before deciding to press the trigger.
The threat actor leaked some screenshots to show that the website was pirated, and in those screenshots showed the supposed backend, the source code and the prohibition templates of the site. In addition, the hacker leaked a list of moderators and janitors, essentially the website operators.
Praising the fall
4Chan is one of the most popular anonymous Imageards in the world. It is a forum in which users cannot register an account, and in which the threads disappear after a while (unless it is filed, which only occurs in certain situations). In the past, he gained notoriety when their users gathered to carry out “raids”, often promoting fascism, racism and other destructive ideologies, “for the Lulz” (for fun).
Memes like Pepe The Frog, Pedo Bear, the anonymous mask of Fawkes, and many other trends, originated in 4chan. The “raids” included live floods, massive multiplayer games and chat platforms, other forums and the like. The forum and its users also had their “rivals”, mostly Ebaumsworld (which they always tried to change the fault during the raids) and 8Chan.
In social networks, the users of these boards are now roying and praising the “fall” of 4chan.
Techcrunch spoke with one of the janitors, who said that the Imagoard suffered hacks and ddos attacks in the past, but emphasized that this could be particularly dangerous since it seems that the hacker has total control over the site.
“I have been more concerned with leaked information, for obvious reasons,” said the janitor. “I bet that the fact that 4Chan was effectively assumed by a hacker (s) is probably” worse “than screenshots, at least from the perspective of the continuous operation of the site.”
They also told the publication that the stolen data were probably authentic.
Every time 4chan disconnected in the past, or every time someone threatened legal actions against them, users responded with a famous event now, which I will also use here: “Nothing of value was lost.”
