An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore on Tuesday issued a ten-year prison sentence to the main leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI), including Dr. Yasmin Rashid, for his alleged participation in the convoy vehicle fire of a judge of the Superior Court during the protests of May 9, 2023.
The verdict was announced by the ATC judge, Manzar Ali Gul, after concluding the prison trial in a case registered under the FIR No 109/23 at the Sarwar Road police station. The incident took place amid generalized protests after the arrest of the founder of PTI Imran Khan.
In addition to the former provincial health minister, the governor of Punjab, Omar Sarfraz Chema, and the leaders of the Ejaz Chaudhry and Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed party have also received 10 -year prison terms. The supporter of PTI, Khadija Shah, was sentenced and awarded a five -year prison.
However, the court acquitted the vice president of PTI Shah Mahmood Qureshi and two women Rubina Jamil and Afshan Tariq for reasons of insufficient evidence.

A total of 51 individuals, including five women, were appointed in the case, of which 39 were submitted to the full trial procedures within the prison facilities, while 12 were declared fugitive.
This is Dr. Yasmin’s third conviction in relation to the violence of May 9. The 72 -year -old was previously sentenced to ten years in prison for an ATC in Lahore on July 22. In that case, the court acquitted six PTI leaders, including Qureshi and Hamza Azeem, while they condemned another ten.
A special ATC in Faisalabad, on July 31, sentenced 108 PTI leaders, including Omar Ayub, Shibli Faraz, Sartaj Gul, MNA Sahibzada Hamid Raza and former Sheikh Rashid Shafiq, ten years in prison in relation to similar incidents, while another 77 were obtained.
On August 12, the same ATC in Lahore condemned Dr. Yasmin, Chema, Chaudhry and Rasheed, sentenced them to ten years in prison. PTI Aliya Hamza and Sanam Javed leaders were also convicted in that case and each received a period of five years.
