
Drew Barrymore remembers how she entered a rehab center when she was 14 years old.
In the episode of Friday, October 24, The Drew Barrymore Show The 50-year-old American actress introduced Mae Martin, who co-wrote, created and also stars in a Netflix mystery series titled Rebelwhich centers on a local police officer who investigates a local school in a small town to find out about troubled teenagers.
Incidents that happened in Martin’s real life influenced him to write the show, as when he was a teenager, a childhood friend of his had to stay in a similar facility for two years during his teenage years.
Following the 38-year-old Canadian comedian and actor’s reflection on his friend’s experience, Barrymore opened up about his own time in rehab.
She revealed: “I was also someone who was taken away and put in a place for two years.”
Martin responded in surprise, “I didn’t know. I mean, I knew you were a wayward teenager, just like me. I was in rehab and stuff, but I didn’t know you were in one of those places.”
Barrymore went on to praise the show as it shows the troubled teen industry through intricate storytelling.

I know it sounds crazy, but it was like an encouragement to speak your truth, to be brave, to find humor and heroism in your journey. And it’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me, honestly.”
“And I hold a lot of that sacrosanct. But it wasn’t easy. It was very difficult,” Drew Barrymore said.
