- Dropbox adds Dash to its own cloud storage platform
- Now connect through Slack, Canva and more
- Availability is still limited, as users will need to join a waiting list.
Dropbox is adding more Dash AI features to the main app and interface to make it easier for workers to find what they need.
Launched in 2023 as a universal search bar that connects with third-party apps like Slack, Canva, and Google Workspace, Dash will now support smarter searches, summaries, and contextual responses on files stored in Dropbox.
The progress doesn’t end there either, because Dropbox has promised to soon add multi-modal search that will support searching across videos, audio, and images, through a partnership with Mobius Labs.
Dropbox Dash AI comes to… Dropbox
It was actually a natural progression for Dropbox to bring its AI tool to its own platform, although no one expected it to take this long, and for now you’ll have to join a waitlist for early access.
The company claimed that 95% of AI tools fail because they lack context across apps, so perhaps creating third-party support was a priority so that when Dash launched within Dropbox, it would be even more powerful.
“It’s like having an AI teammate that really understands you and your team,” Dropbox said.
There are two ways to access Dash: the first is an app that’s easy to set up and aims to address scattered, isolated content, and the second is the new Dropbox integration.
At the same time, Dropbox also announced the new Dash MCP server, meaning MCP-compatible apps like Claude, Cursor, and Goose can access search features from their own interfaces.
“Whether you’re composing an email or reviewing code, the answers and information you need are always at your fingertips with Dash,” the company wrote.
For now, the Dash app is only available for devices in the US and only in English; however, a Dropbox plan is not required. The availability of Dash more broadly on Dropbox will continue “in the coming months.”
