Dropbox will begin to close your password administrator service this week as part of a gradual interruption of the function.
While the closure is not immediate, there are several steps that must continue to transfer its existing credentials to another password administrator.
And if you don’t act now, you could lose all your stored passwords.
Dropbox password administrator off
On August 28, 2025, the automatic approach function will be disabled and will not be able to add any new credential to its storage. Nor can you edit your stored credentials, but you can still access them for export.
However, you should probably export your stored passwords sooner rather than later, since on September 11 the mobile application will be closed and will not be able to access your passwords stored through a mobile device. If you have not exported your passwords by then, you can still access your password vault through the browser extension.
If you do not take any measure before October 28, you will not be able to export any of its stored passwords, since Dropbox will close the browser extension and eliminate all accounts and passwords. This timeline also applies to commercial users, but each individual employee must export their passwords stored before October 28.
There are many other options for the storage of credentials, both the best password administrators and the best commercial password administrators have numerous options for all budgets and use cases.
If you find a new solution and want to export your passwords to a different solution, Dropbox recommends taking the following steps:

- Click on your avatar (profile or initial image) in the lower left corner.
- Click “Preferences”.

Numerous companies have begun to eliminate the storage functionality of credentials of their services, from Dropbox, to Microsoft Authenticator and even Deutsche Bank.
“This development, although it challenges for affected people, highlights an increasingly crucial aspect of personal and organizational cybersecurity: the need for robust, reliable and dedicated solutions,” says Karolis Arbaciauskas, head of commercial products in NordPass.
“In other words, trusting integrated characteristics within a broader service, which could be subject to strategic changes, can expose users to unexpected vulnerabilities,” he continues.
“But in the long run, this change can be beneficial. Users will probably go from integrated solutions to dedicated cybersecurity tools. Meanwhile, Dropbox, Deutsche Bank and other security companies that are not belonging to persecution can concentrate on their main products. Maintain services, such as safe password vaults and up to date, and require constant attention.”
