Pakistan’s Electoral Commission (ECP) officially notified on Thursday the choice of former Mishal Yousafzai special assistant to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Ali Amin Gandapur, the Senate in a seat reserved for KP women.
According to the ECP, Yousafzai will serve in the Upper House until March 11, 2027, after the resignation of Sania Nishtar. The notification has also been sent to the Senate Secretariat.
Yousafzai is expected to do his oath as a senator during the next session of the Senate. Political observers say that their entrance to the Upper House could add a new voice of KP, with the expectations that it will focus on development, the empowerment of women and education in the province.
The partial choice was held to fill the seat unemployed by the resignation of Dr. Saint Nishtar de PTI. In the survey held at the KP Assembly, Yousafzai obtained 86 votes, while the joint candidate of the opposition Mehtab Zafar, received 53 votes.
