Islamabad:
The Pakistan Electoral Commission (ECP) has asked the Supreme Court to dismiss the requests that challenge the elimination of voting rights for Pakistani abroad.
The electoral supervisor presented a written response to the Superior Court in this regard. In his response, the survey supervision agency declared that the requests defy the recent amendments to the Elections Law. The Commission emphasized that it had already carried out a pilot project on the Internet vote (I-Voting) during the partial elections of October 2018, whose results were presented to Parliament for revision.
The ECP also declared that, in compliance with the Directive of the Supreme Court, an audit of third parties of the pilot project was carried out. The audit report concluded that the voting system I was not safe or capable of guaranteeing the privacy of voters.
It is the prerogative of Parliament to determine the method by which the Pakistani abroad can cast their votes, the ECP maintained, and added that the legislature could, if so, promote, promulgate laws that allow vote abroad through embassies or other means.
