Islamabad:
The country’s survey supervision authority, the Pakistan Electoral Commission (ECP), will assume tomorrow (Tuesday) a case related to the elections within the party at the Imran Khan PTI.
In this sense, the ECP has issued notices to the PTI, its nominal president, the lawyer Gohar Ali Khan, and the main electoral commissioner of the party, Raoof Hasan.
The ECP has also notified PTI’s discontent member, Akbar S Babar and other respondents. The authority has held eight hearings of the case, which has been pending since March 2024.
The commission in December 2023 declared that the elections within the feast of PTI null and null in view of several irregularities while listening to a complaint filed by Akbar S Babar.
The Supreme Court on January 17, 2024 confirmed the order of the ECP.
As a result of the order, the PTI lost its electoral symbol of the Cricket’s bat and its candidates had to compete on February 8, 2024 general elections as independent.
Shortly after the elections, the PTI in March 2024 again drove the polls within the party, declaring that Gohar Ali Khan and Omar Ayub Khan had been elected without opposition as the president and the general secretary of the party “in elections held according to the guidelines of the Supreme Court.”
However, the ECP once again raised objections to the way in which the surveys were held.
He said that the PTI could not make elections within the party under section 208 (1) of the election law during the last five years, which represents the party without the organizational structure.
The PTI also did not submit the documents required to enlist under section 202 (5) since the party had to present the documents of the intrapartum elections. In addition, the ECP asked from the PTI, if the meeting of the general body of the party held on January 31, 2024 was in line with section 208 (3).
The PTI appointed the Federal Chief Election Commissioner for the elections within the party under the resolution of the general agency’s meeting, while a party had to form the electoral school under section 208 (3).
According to the constitution of PTI, the National Council on the recommendations of the CEC appoints the Federal Chief Election Commissioner.
The ECP asked the PTI with the state of the general agency and the federal commissioner of chief elections as the general agency appointed the chief organizer who notified the main federal commissioner.
The ECP asked if the general agency could appoint the chief organizer and the federal commissioner of chief elections. He sought the PTI position on the five applications related to the elections within the party, asking the party why the ECP should not take measures against the party under section 208 (5).
