Islamabad/Peshawar:
In a procedural advance before the Senate elections of July 21, the Pakistan Electoral Commission (ECP) has written to the Registrar of the Superior Court of Peshawar (PHC), requesting the appointment of an officer under article 255 (2) of the Constitution.
The step aims to facilitate the swear of the members chosen for the reserved seats of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa before the day of the vote.
The letter emphasizes that both the election of the Senate and the taking of oath were the constitutional requirements, which urges that the formalities prior to the survey are completed in time.
After the judicial intervention, the seats reserved in the KP assembly were redistributed among the political parties, including PTI, PML-N, Jui-F, ANP and PPP, the creation of a bottleneck as the chosen candidates could not assume their offices due to the absence of a quorum.
The direct appeal of the ECP al PHC aims to eliminate the procedural obstacle.
Meanwhile, the Department of Provincial Law has formally submitted a summary to Prime Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, requesting an assembly session.
