QUETTA:
At least eight people died and several others were injured after a passenger bus crashed in front with an oil -loaded vehicle on the CPEC route in the Panjgur district of Baluchistan on Saturday, causing a massive fire that wrapped both vehicles.
Police sources said the accident was caused by speeding.
The initial reports confirmed five deaths, but the toll increased to six after one of the injured succumbed to the burns before arriving at the hospital. Later, two more victims died of their wounds, which took the total deaths to eight.
Rescue officials told Express PAkGazette that the bodies and injured were immediately transferred to the Panjgur Teaching Hospital, where the treatment of the injured was underway. The rescue operation was completed later.
Police launched an investigation into the incident and identified speeding as the preliminary cause.
The tragedy has once again exposed the gloomy state of road safety in Baluchistan, where the poor road infrastructure and non -suitable vehicles often result in fatal accidents.
Local residents and rights groups have renewed calling safety measures along the CPEC route.
Meanwhile, rescue officials confirmed that four people were killed in Khnuzai when a vehicle overturned after losing control.
