Islamabad:
The National Regulatory Authority of Electric Power has approved an increase of RS0.19 per unit in the electricity rate under the monthly fuel cost adjustment mechanism.
The walk will apply to all electricity distribution companies, including K-Electric, but will exclude lifeguards, prepaid users and electric vehicle load stations.
According to a notification issued by NEPRA, the walk falls under the fuel cost adjustment mechanism (FCA) and will be reflected in the electricity invoices for October.
Nepra held a public hearing at its headquarters, chaired by the president of the authority, where representatives of the Central Purchasing Agency of Power, members of the Business Community, officials of the Ministry of Energy, journalists and members of the public were present.
The CPPA-G had requested an increase of 19 paisas per unit. Nepra declared that he carefully listened to the opinions of all interested parties during the audience. The authority will publish a detailed decision after a greater scrutiny of the data sent.
Electricity production cost in August
In August, a total of 102.94 billion electricity units to distribution companies were supplied. The total cost of the energy generation was at RS7.50 per unit, slightly higher than the previous rate of RS7.31 per unit. The electricity generated, using local coal, cost RS12.01 per unit, while the use of imported coal increased the cost to RS14.07 per unit.
The production of energy through the oven oil was significantly higher in RS33 per unit, while the gas -based generation cost was located in RS13.43 per unit. Similarly, the electricity generated with LNG stood at RS21.73 per unit. The electricity imported from Iran proved to be the most expensive in RS41 per unit, while Bagazo -based generation was relatively cheaper in RS9.87 per unit.
