Washington: The Trump administration has announced that ending deportation protections for thousands of Afghan and Camerooners living in the United States, a spokesman for the National Security Department said Friday.

It is estimated that 14,600 Afghan eligible for the protected temporal state (TPS) will now lose it in May. Around 7,900 Camerooners had access to the State, but they will lose it in June after the termination.

The president of the United States, Donald Trump, a Republican, assumed the position in January that promises a record number of migrants living in the United States illegally. At the same time, it has quickly moved to migrants of temporary legal protections, expanding the network of possible deportees.

Trump has criticized the high levels of illegal immigration under former Democratic President Joe Biden and argued that Biden programs that offer legal status exceeded legal authority.

The TPS program is available for people whose countries of origin have experienced natural disasters, armed conflicts or other extraordinary events. The State, which lasts from 6 to 18 months, can be renewed by the Secretary of National Security and offers deportation protection and access to work permits.

The Secretary of National Security, Kristi Noem, determined that the conditions in Afghanistan and Cameroon no longer justified the protected state, said spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin in a statement.

Trump tried to end most of the TPS registration during his 2017-2021 presidency, but was blocked by federal courts. A district judge from the United States at the end of March arrested his effort to finish the status for Venezuelans, stating that the representation of migrants officials such as criminals “hit racism.”

Revocated probation

The United States evacuated more than 82,000 Afghas from Afghanistan after the acquisition of the Taliban in 2021, including more than 70,000 who entered the country with temporary “probation”, which allowed legal entry for two years.

The temporary protected state offered another protection route. DHS said in 2023 that the designation was justified due to armed conflicts and insurgency in Afghanistan.

The defenders have said in recent days that the migrants who entered the US. Uu. Through an Biden Era application known as CBP One, including Afghans, they have received notices revoking their temporary probation and ordering them to leave the country within seven days.

McLaughlin confirmed this week that the department had revoked the probation of some migrants, stating that DHS was “exercising his discretionary authority.” She did not provide figures on the number of revocations.

“The affected people are urged to voluntarily self -correcting using the CBP Home application,” he said in a statement.

The notices resemble the messages sent by error last week to the Ukrainians.
