Eminem opened a crucial moment in his life that made him leave his addiction to the pill.
In his new documentary entitled Stanshe Mockingbird The rapper talked about his almost fatal overdose in 2007 and what led him to give up his addiction.
“I got into this viscous cycle of ‘I am depressed, so I need more pills’ and then your tolerance becomes so high that you end overdose,” he began.
“I woke up in the hospital and I didn’t know what happened.
“I had this video that brought me because I missed Hailie’s first guitar recital,” Eminem recalled, referring to his daughter Hailie Jade.
“The amount of guilt I felt, I cried when I saw her because I thought, ‘My God, I missed that.'”
“Do you want to miss everything? If you can’t do it for yourself … then at least do it for them,” he asked.
This was the turning point in Eminem’s addiction struggle, and began his sobriety trip in April 2008 and has kept it in recent years.
To honor his trip, he dedicated his 2009 album Relapse During the first days of his trip.
