Energy cuts hold Karachi while urban floods hinder restoration efforts


The power cuts were informed in several parts of Karachi in the middle of heavy rains since Tuesday morning, with many areas still plunged into the dark, leaving the frustrated internet users when dealing with daily interruptions and limited access to essential services.

In a statement, the utility said that its distribution system remains stable, but added that the security of life and property, and accident prevention, remains the highest priority. “At present, more than 1,285 of the 2,100 feeders of the city are operational,” said the spokesman, noting that supplies restoration continues when conditions allow it.

Ke said that rainwater standing in several areas continues to hinder restoration efforts, since security authorizations are required before land equipment can start working. “As soon as the water levels go back and the equipment confirms the safety in the soil, the restoration work resumes in the affected areas,” added the spokesman.

So far, the energy supply has been restored in several areas, including goal Market, Nazimabad C-3 and 3D, Metroville, Orangi No 5, Federal B Blocks 7 and 9, Machhar Col Col Col Col Col Col Col Col Col Col Col Col Col Colster, Moosa Col Col Col Colfish Block 5, Pak Johaha, Pak Alg Colonia, Colonia Shahnawaz Bhutto, Shah Faisal Mohalla and Womenb Goth.

Other areas in which energy has been restored include Sir Syed Road, Khalid Bin Waleed Road, Pechs Blocks 2 and 3, Abdullah Haroon Road, Gharibabad, Market of Furniture, GDP Colony, Nafeesabad, Iqbal Colony, North Nazimabad Blocks J, S, and T, Saadi Town.

Residents have been advised to report emergencies related to electricity marking 118, while the public services company has reminded the public that can also be contacted through social media platforms, the KE WhatsApp service, the 118 aid line and the KE Live application.
