The United Arab Emirates Etihad Airways has been awarded permission to operate additional flights to Karachi, authorities confirmed on Wednesday, said Express News.
According to the sources, Etihad Airways had asked the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) of Pakistan to increase its operations of Dhabi Karachi-Abu on three flights per week.
The CAA has approved the application, allowing the airline to operate a total of 17 weekly flights on the route, above the current 14.
The new flights are expected to begin in October this year, expanding the travel options for passengers between the two cities.
The Karachi-Abu Dhabi service of Etihad is one of the most busy international connections for the port city, which serves business and leisure travelers.
In addition, in another development made earlier this week, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has announced the launch of direct flights from Lahore to Baku, the capital of Azerbaiyan, as of April 20.
According to the airline, two weekly flights will operate on this route, which leave Baku every Sunday and Wednesday.
To commemorate the occasion, a special event in Karachi for travel agents and tour operators was held, during which detailed information was shared on the new Baku flights with the attendees.
PIA officials declared that the new route is expected to play an important role in impulse of bilateral tourism and commercial ties. They also highlighted the role of travel agents in the success of this initiative.
