We know Samsung is busy working on a pair of smart glasses (we’ve even seen them in prototype form) and now company executive Jay Kim has revealed some key details about what we can expect when the product launches.
Speaking to CNBC (via 9to5Google), Kim said that more and more technology companies are exploring the potential of smart glasses, which are now often referred to as AI glasses due to the smart assistants that can be accessed through the devices.
“Everyone is talking about what the next AI device is going to be… and I know I’ve been looking at a lot of different types of devices,” Kim says in the interview. “Glasses, obviously, are one of them and everyone looks at them.”
Kim also talks about the potential for XR (Extended Reality) in the glasses, which are much lighter than the XR headset, meaning they’re easier to wear all day. Samsung introduced its own XR headphones in October.

Details Kim revealed about the Samsung XR’s specs include that there will be an “eye-level” camera on board and that they will require a connection to a smartphone. That’s pretty standard for the best smart glasses on the market right now.
According to Kim, it is important for the built-in AI to understand what the user is looking at to provide information, and that is the goal of Samsung’s smart glasses. However, the executive did not confirm whether the glasses would have a screen or not.
Samsung is partnering with Qualcomm and Google to develop this device, and Kim confirmed that it will launch before the end of the year, something Samsung hinted at when it introduced its XR headphones.
Many other smart glasses are rumored to be in development to compete with the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2. Apple is apparently preparing to launch a product in this category, for example, among several other AI wearable devices.
